Dear Minister, dear Mayor. Dear TIFF

Finally we are gathered here again, to expirience the magic of cinema and the vibrant heartbeat that is the Tromsø International Film Festival. TIFF isn't just another film festival; it's an essential voice in our society.

Cinema, at its core, is the best friend of small places. With local and global stories, capturing the essence of people’s lives with their love and struggles. TIFF has gifted us cinematic experiences that not only reflect society but also enrich our lives.

In the current climate of societal debates, it's important that the work for diversity, acceptance, and inclusion. TIFF stands as a beacon in the Arctic landscape, connecting independent artists and filmmakers, even in challenging times like the recent setback in the Barents cooperation.

This year, the Sámi film industry takes the spotlight, shaping our program with films that resonate with truth and reconciliation efforts. The power of film lies in its ability to build bridges and foster understanding among us as human beings.

Arts and culture bring people together, keeping the doors open even when the world faces challenges. TIFF serves as a unique meeting place for film enthusiasts, bridging the gap between the local and international film industry, with a focus on quality film and film policy.

I would like to make a special shout-out to all the volunteers who tirelessly contribute, showing us what a united community can achieve. Your dedication is a shining example of the positive impact we can create when we come together.

As we embark on this cinematic journey, I invite you all to immerse yourselves in the magic of TIFF. May these film experiences be nothing short of magical, leaving you inspired and connected.

Now I would like to introduce the Minister of Culture and Equality, Lubna Jaffery, for the official opening speech.
